• Justice UU Lalit rescues himself from hearing contempt plea against Andhra CM on ground that he had earlier represented the politician as a lawyer.
• The matter is now likely to put before a separate bench.
• Reddy is accused of misusing his office by making public his letter to the CJI.

Cannot direct parliament to amend the Representation of the People Act, said Supreme Court

• The top court pointed out that once charges have been framed, only then can a person be barred from contesting elections.
• The issue presented by Lok prahari (petitioner) is related to the barring of candidates who have charge sheeted for contesting election. The plea was to bar those candidates for over a year.

US elections 2020:battle for us senate to be decided in January

• The balance of power in the US senate will be decided in January, where Georgia will hold run of elections for both its state seats.
• No candidate in either race have polled 50%, as required by state election law.
• The run-off election will take place on 5^th January, 2 days after the new senate is due to convence.

Rights body says, Gunmen in western Ethiopia kill at least 34 people in bus attack

• The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission said the number of people killed was likely to rise after what it called a “gruesome” attack on the passenger bus in the Benishangul-Gumuz region.

Kashmir: Avalanche warning issued for four districts.

• Authorities in Kashmir issued an avalanche warning in four districts of the valley on Monday as the higher reaches of the Union Territory received moderate to heavy snowfall, while the plains were lashed by rains.
• The avalanche warning has been issued in Kupwara, Bandipora and Baramulla districts of north Kashmir, and Ganderbal district in central Kashmir, officials said.

• Vodafone, the world’s second largest mobile operator, saying it was increasingly confident after a “resilient” first half, despite the impact of COVID-19 obscuring its underlying momentum.
• The British company was hit by the loss of roaming revenue as international  travel was curtailed by the pandemic, resulting in a 0.4% drop in group service revenue in the second quarter.
• Vodafone, which plans to list the spin-out of its towers business in Frankfurt early next year, also confirmed its full-year free cashflow guidance of at least 5 billion euros before spectrum and restructuring costs on Monday, confirmed in a report.

• After a standoff with global regulators, management turmoil and a massive safety review, Boeing Co is set to win U.S. approval on Wednesday to resume flights of its grounded 737 MAX.
• Southwest Airlines , the world’s largest MAX operator, has said it would take several months to comply with the FAA requirements and it does not plan to schedule flights on the aircraft until the second quarter of 2021, they confirmed in a report.

The German Bank will focus on Bank Restructuring rather than lending to the mergers:

• Deutsche Bank Chief Executive Officer Christian Sewing said on Monday that the German lender will focus on the bank’s restructuring over the next year rather than on mergers.
• He said at a Press Banking conference that, “the European banking sector is too fragmented but cross-border mergers will not be attractive until the banking union is completed”, respectively.

AWS and Microsoft Azure’s Cloud market grew dramatically:

• Most large IT service providers including Wipro, HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra, which have signed on a number of partnerships with cloud partners in the past few quarters, are now doubling down on revenue from specific practices in their cloud units.
• Analysts said cloud providers would heavily rely on the help of system integrators (SIs) to double down on the enterprise cloud market and are offering significant incentives to Indian SIs to aggressively pursue revenue growth from cloud consulting for large clients, they confirmed in a report.
